Workplace Inspections

Training Package

Course Description

Regular workplace inspections are an essential component of an effective health and safety program because they are a means of identifying hazards and monitoring the effectiveness of hazard controls.

This course is intended to provide employers, joint health and safety committee members, and management with the understanding of the types of inspections, as well as learning about reports and follow-ups. Inspection preparation, inspection reporting and follow- up will be taught in this course. There are two modules in this course:

  1. Planning for a Workplace Inspection
  2. The Workplace Inspection, The Report, and The Follow Up

Target Audience:

  • Joint Health and Safety Committee Members
  • Management & Supervisors
  • Employers
  • General Staff

Completion of the course will provide participants with the knowledge of:

  • Identify common types of workplace inspections, including the regular, scheduled workplace inspections
  • Understand why workplace inspections are a necessary component of an organization’s health and safety program
  • Know how the issue of workplace inspections is addressed by occupational health and safety (OHS) laws
  • Describe the workplace inspection responsibilities of the employer, the JHSC and the worker
  • Identify the steps in the workplace inspection process
  • Identify the steps in the workplace inspection process
  • Recognize the factors that must be considered when developing the workplace inspection process
  • List the factors that must be considered when developing a workplace inspection schedule

Prerequisite:

None.

Course Duration:

This course is designed to be completed within 45 minutes; however, participants are able to complete the course within any time length they desire.

FAQ

  • Our training course is designed for all industries, although it is specifically suited for supervisors or senior management who are in charge of a workplace or hold authority over a worker. This includes foremen, site supervisors, lead hands or anyone else who may give direction in their workplace.

  • Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), the constructor, employer and workers shall provide a health and safety representative with such information and assistance as the member may require for inspecting the workplace.
